Ground Control Charity

Ground Control is a nationwide charity campaign inspired by the format of Children in Need, a centralised, multi-platform donation drive supporting the World Cancer Research Fund.

The initiative will be a gateway for all donations made around and during the Heroes concert, a national celebration in memory and tribute to the life and work of David Bowie.

People across the country will be able to donate via telephone, text, mobile apps, online, and QR codes, ensuring maximum accessibility.

A Gateway to Giving

A nationwide campaign will feature all sizes of acts, from arenas and theatres to clubs, bar bands, and solo performers, who will perform a Bowie set or songs on this day to commemorate, celebrate, and donate their profits to Ground Control, the collection interface for the WCRF.

100% Transparency and Direct Donations

Every penny donated goes directly to the WCRF, with no deductions for administrative fees or platform costs. Ground Control operates solely as a gateway, ensuring all proceeds are handled by the charity.

Ground Control is a dedicated, secure, and transparent online platform designed to facilitate donations directly to the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). Inspired by David Bowie’s Space Oddity and its message of exploration and humanity, Ground Control serves as a bridge between donors and a brighter future in cancer research.

Countdown started, engines on

The World Cancer research Fund

  • 40% of cancers are preventable.

  • Globally, over 35 million new cancer cases are predicted in 2050.

  • Only 5% of UK cancer research funding goes on prevention.

  • We’ve been funding research into the links between lifestyle and cancer since 1982.

  • We turn research into practical guidance that everyone – scientists, clinicians and ordinary people – can trust and use. Our work saves lives – but there’s much more to do.
